The 2007 rugby season for the Calgary Saints senior men was a success and may go down as one of the best performances by a Saints team. The record was an amazing 16-1 winning both the League Championship and Provincial title.
2007 was a year of resurrection for the Saints Second Division Team. For the first time since 2005 Saints fielded a Second Div. team in the Southern Alberta Rugby Cometition and after faltering early in the season and being 1 and 5 after 6 weeks, the team found their gears. With the addition of Coach John Pepe, the team turned their game on it’s head, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in several of the remaining games of the season, coming within only a few points of beating the league leading teams. Scrounging bonus points and enough wins to work their way into the finals for the Southern Alberta Shield, Saints Second Div. wound up playing season rivals, The Irish in the final. With a convincing 17-10 victory The Saints dominated the whole game and proved that come 2008 they will certainly be a force to be reckoned with. Congratulations goes out to Pepe and all the boys for a successful 2007 season.
