How to Get Involved
Once Registration opens, volunteering opportunities across our programs are made available. As new volunteer opportunities open, we encourage our members to stay tuned to our communication avenues about how to get involved. Explore some of the different ways that you can get involved with your Calgary Saints below.
The core volunteers that provide leadership and support to the organization. The majority of these roles have operational responsibilities. Positions are elected in the fall of each year, and positions require a two-year commitment.
Coaching is a great way to be involved with the game and develop your leadership skills. The time commitment and experience required varies by team. NCCP coaching courses are required for all ages (note: there are different levels of training) and the cost is covered by the club. Flag rugby is entirely non-contact. This age grade is focussed on learning the basics of rugby and having fun. Mini flag rugby practices are scheduled on days and times to not overlap with any other age grades, and games are Saturday mornings.
Head coach and assistant coaches positions available. We encourage players and parents to assist.
Spring season runs from April to the end of June. Fall season runs mid August to the end of September.

Teams are divided by age and gender. From age grade U13 and up, players are learning position specific skills, set piece and open field play.

The U13/15 Spring season runs from April to the end of June for 15’s season. Fall season 7’s runs mid August to the end of September.
U16/U18 season runs from the mid June through August (starts after the high school season ends) for 15’s season. 7’s season continues from the finals until the end of September.
Team Managers are responsible for managing the team they are assigned to.
The junior team managers are responsible for managing the junior team they are assigned to.

The Senior Team managers are responsible for managing the senior teams.

Spring season runs from April to the end of June. Fall season runs mid August to the end of September.
The transition representatives are responsible for the development of the U16/U18 juniors teams and transition into adult athletes with the Saints men and women senior teams.
Expected time commitment is approximately 2 hours/week from March to September.

The minis referees would be responsible for reffing the minis on Saturday mornings throughout the season. Refereeing at this age is heaving on active vocal teaching of offsides, forward passes and knock-ons with a focus on letting the kids play through most things and teaching afterwards. Minis referees are required to register as a referee and take an appropriate referee course, the cost of which is covered by the club. The junior committee is composed of multiple members that are responsible for day to day operation and management of the junior program. Committee members will include minis liaison, junior girl liaison, and junior boy liaison.
Expected time commitment varies significantly depending on needs of the junior program. Significant commitment is required from February to September.

The social club committee consists of multiple members that are responsible for planning, implementing and facility club wide events. Committee members will include junior and senior representatives.
Expected time commitment is 2-5 hours/event year round. Note: typically 1-2 events a month are planned from May to August with limited events throughout the remaining part of the year.

If you have a fundraising opportunity, can contribute to our sponsorship program and make connections with local businesses, or want to donate items for our club raffles/auctions, we’d love to hear from you! Assistance with these items would contribute to fulfilling the volunteer bond requirements.

The fundraising committee is composed of multiple liaisons that are responsible for seeking out fundraising opportunities, and implementing and facilitating club wide fundraising events.
Expected time commitment is 5-10 hours/month during preseason to seek our opportunities and plan fundraising events, and 5-10 hours/season to facilitate events.

The Manager and Coordinator positions within the Calgary Saints are individual roles that serve the organization as a whole. The time commitment of each role varies, and can be seen in the details listed below.
The merchandise manager is responsible for managing rugby equipment and helping to facilitate saints merchandise with external vendors.
Expected time commitment is 5-10 hours/month during preseason, and 2 hours/month during the season.

The social media manager is responsible for managing the saints social media accounts, including creating content and dispersing information.
Expected time commitment is 5-10 hours/month, during the season, and as needed in off season.

The volunteer coordinator is responsible for facilitating and managing the Saints Volunteer Bond Program.
